Privacy Policy

Samaan Pantry is built and operated by Saman Technologies LLC. This page explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what your rights are. If something is unclear, email haaris@samantechnologies.com.

What we collect

We collect the minimum needed to run the app.

Account information

• Email address
• Password (stored hashed — we cannot read it)

Your pantry data

• Items, quantities, expiration dates, and notes you add
• Pantries, stores, and shopping lists you create
• Recipes you capture, including transcripts sent to extract ingredients

This is your data. It belongs to you.

Standard technical information

• App crashes and errors, used to fix bugs
• Basic device type and iOS version, provided automatically by Apple

We do not collect your location, contacts, or biometric data. Camera access, if you grant it, is used only to scan a barcode or capture a recipe. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

How we use your data

• To run the app and sync your pantry across your devices
• To sign you in
• To extract ingredients from a recipe you capture
• To process a paid subscription if you choose one
• To respond to support questions
• To fix crashes and bugs

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. Recipe text is sent to an AI provider only to extract ingredients for your list. We do not use your pantry to train our own models.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of trusted services to operate the app:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and the Edge Functions that proxy recipe extraction and account deletion. Your account and pantry data live here. See Supabase's privacy policy.
• Anthropic — processes recipe transcripts you capture, only through our extract-recipe Edge Function. The iOS app never talks to Anthropic directly and never ships an API key. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
• RevenueCat — subscription status if you buy Plus. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
• Apple — app distribution, in-app purchases, and standard iOS diagnostics. See Apple's privacy policy.

These are processors acting on our behalf. They do not have rights to use your data for their own purposes. We do not transfer or sell your data to anyone else.

Your rights

You can:

• Access your data — everything in the app is your data, viewable anytime
• Export your data — email haaris@samantechnologies.com to request an export
• Delete your account — Settings inside the app, Delete Account. That removes your pantry data on our servers. You can also email haaris@samantechnologies.com and we will do it within 30 days.
• Correct your data — edit anything inside the app

If you live in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA, including the right to object to processing, request a copy of your data, and lodge a complaint with your local data authority.

How we protect your data

• Passwords are hashed and never stored in readable form
• Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS
• Database access is restricted by Row Level Security — you can only see your own data
• We do not share account credentials with anyone

No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously. If we detect a breach affecting your data, we will notify you.

Children

Samaan Pantry is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email haaris@samantechnologies.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update this page and change the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will notify you in the app.
